Wisdom Teeth: Removal, Maintenance and Cavity Prevention

How To Speed Up Your Invisalign Treatment Progress

No matter what orthodontic appliance patients choose to straighten their teeth with, most patients prefer to get their treatment over and done quickly. With Invisalign, you can speed up your treatment progress somewhat. And you can avoid the delays in your treatment that sometimes occur due to bad habits.

To ensure your Invisalign treatment proceeds as quickly as possible, remember the following tips:

Get digital impressions of your teeth

Before your Invisalign treatment begins, your orthodontist will need to take an impression of your teeth. Some orthodontists use physical impressions, which can be messy and leave room for human error as the molds are created in a lab. Digital impressions use 3D imaging technology to create a 3D virtual model of your teeth that you and your dentist can view from all angles.

Digital impressions are highly accurate since they can capture every detail as they scan your teeth. This high level of accuracy could help to make Invisalign aligners that fit well and work well to move your teeth during your treatment.

Wear your aligners for 22 hours per day

The speed at which Invisalign straightens your teeth depends upon how long you wear each aligner. Most orthodontists will tell you to wear each Invisalign aligner for 20-22 hours a day to ensure your teeth move at a good pace. So if you really want to complete your treatment as quickly as possible, wear each aligner for 22 hours per day. This will mean only removing your aligner for meals and oral hygiene.

Sometimes, you may need to remove your aligner for longer than usual on a particular day. In this case, make up the time by wearing your aligners for slightly longer in the following days to avoid slowing down your treatment progress.

Use chewies to help your aligners fit better

At first, each new aligner will be difficult to wear. You may struggle to place your aligners firmly and comfortably onto your teeth. Since it is important that aligners fit onto your teeth well to perform their job, orthodontists will provide you with small cylinders called chewies. Chewing these soft plastic cylinders for a few minutes will help your aligners fit better and therefore work better. This could help to speed up your overall treatment time.

You can speed up your Invisalign treatment if you remain disciplined during your treatment and follow the aforementioned advice. Ask your orthodontist for advice if you want to ensure that your treatment proceeds smoothly and as quickly as possible.
